Collaborations with other institutes
Since 1983 the Foundation has worked in collaboration with the prestigious Swiss Group for Cancer Research (SAKK).
In 1984 it began a successful collaboration with the Ludwig Breast Cancer Study Group, which in 1986 re-established itself as the IBCSG (International Breast Cancer Study Group), a major international coordination centre for clinical research. The IBCSG is an independent collaborative research group that cooperates with other independent research groups engaged in the same testing out of new therapies for breast cancer, including BIG (Breast International Group).
Close collaborative relationships have also included other institutions such as the European Oncology Institute, the Istituto Mario Negri and Istituto Tumori di Milano, the Royal Marsden Hospital (UK), l’Hôpital Tenon in Paris and world centres like Roswell Park Memorial Institute in Buffalo (USA).
The Beretta Foundation’s Scientific Committee has always been led since its inception by Prof. Aron Goldhirsch, former consultant in Medical Oncology in Berne, currently consultant in Medical Oncology in Lugano and Mendrisio and since 1997 head of the Medical Oncology and Oncological Radiation Department at the IEO in Milan.
